In 1985, the congregation of The United Church in Meadowood decided that it was time for a building of their own, the property was purchased and planning began. The United Church of Canada provided $480,000.00 interest free mortgage as part of a national Ventures in Mission program. Ground was broken on the church building project in 1988, and the first worship service was held in 1989. Over the years, we have continued to pay off the VIM mortgage as a part of our yearly operating expenses. In March of 2015, $76,000 remained on the mortgage and the congregation faced a decision of suspending the payments for 2 years, or making a plan to finish the payments, once and for all. The Burn the Mortgage campaign was undertaken in March of 2015, and in only 15 months, our congregation came together with generous contributions the final payment was made in May of 2016! The United Church in Meadowood has a tradition of facing challenges, working together, being creative, and holding fast to the vision of a Christian community of faith – serving it’s neighbors. On October 30, 2016 we celebrated! Congratulations! Thank You! May UCiM keep dreaming dreams, and commit to new service, spreading further the blessings of Christ in our neighborhood and world!
