Purpose

The purpose of Small Group Ministry at The United Church in Meadowood is to provide a means whereby members of our congregation can meet around areas of mutual interest in an atmosphere of camaraderie that affords us the opportunity to form and nurture relationships, to explore and strengthen our faith, and to grow and develop spiritually so that discipleship within our church family as well as in the broader community is facilitated.

Goals

  • To live out being a Christian community;
  • To explore what it means to be a Christian community: internally & externally – corporately & individually;
  • To hear others’ stories;
  • To be energised;
  • To feel safe/comfortable enough to be challenged ; and
  • To intentionally continue to explore our expectations

YAM (Young Adult) Shoutout!

It is exciting to share a new development in UCiM’s ministry! Seems a bunch of YAMs have started a facebook group! If you think this is a fit for your own journey, head over! Like the page and see what other Brothers & Sisters in the faith community are planning, dreaming, hoping & sharing! And, should you be wondering what the M in YAM stands for … well you’ll just have to be the one who starts that Group conversation!

A UCiM Invitation to Young Adults Apr 26/12

Hey Young Adults in UCiM’s midst!
We’re wondering what we can do to bring you together?
Help nurture friendships?
Explore your faith?

We may not have the answers, but we can invite you to come together on the evening of Thursday, April 26th @ 6:30 pm. We also may not know how to say – exactly – who is a ‘young adult,’ so feel free to self-identify and join us! Nothing formal, let’s order pizza when we all gather and see what we see! Please RSVP on the sign-up sheet on the UCiM Bulletin Board or email the office ucm@ucim.org or Dea. Richard rmmt@ucim.org! If this is not a fit, but is of interest, please feel free to drop us an email too – let us know what you would like to see happening for you @ UCiM!

“Open Hearts” Event with Alyson Huntly (Occurs Nov 4-5/11)

UCiM’s Small Group Ministry Affirm Team would like to highlight an upcoming learning opportunity called “Open Hearts.” The vent is described in the following manner:

One of the blessings about being Church in our world today is that we enable each other to engage in what Martin Luther called “beloved community.” It is a privilege to be God’s people together as we explore what it means to be a community of joy, resistance, and justice

The Conference Visioning and Critical Reflection (VCR) Committee is sponsoring a community building event entitled “Open Hearts”. – Friday, November 4 at 5p.m. to Saturday, November 5 at 4p.m. at Augustine United Church, It is a chance for us to think about what it might mean for us to be an Affirming Ministry in our home context, and also to network with other ministry settings that are Affirming Ministries. We will hear personal stories, highlight what it means to have scripture as an authoritative source, and all the while building community in a larger context. Our resource person for the day will be Alyson Huntly who is a staff person at United Theological College in Montreal.

If you are interested in attending with other UCiM members, please contact Dea. Richard (rmmt@ucim.org). For more information about this event, please see the Announcement on the Conference of Manitoba and Nortwestern Ontario’s website.

UCiM Gardeners Begin Harvest 2011!

The following update has been shared by the UCiM Gardeners, which is a part of our Small Group Ministry!

Last week, we were fortunate to have John Badertscher deliver for us 2 bags of peas and beans to West Broadway Community Ministry.

Today, I took to West Broadway more of our produce – quite a bit more than last week. The basket in this picture is large and I was able to make up 6 bags of beans. Each bag contained about two generous helpings of beans. They were being scooped up at West Broadway as fast as I could place them down. How exciting.

There has been such pleasure working with the gardening group, hearing reports on the work in the garden, harvest alerts, efforts to intervene rabbit invasions, and so on. And it is a real joy to experience delivery of our produce into grateful hands.
