Reaching Across Borders Update

Outreach would like to share the following update from our friends at Reaching Across Borders:

This past year through sales at various Craft Sales, Farmers Markets and our own Christmas Craft Sale at CJS, we were able to raise approximately $14,000. $6000 of which was sent to Collège St. Esprit in Mbour, Senegal for the funding of elementary and high school tuitions and $8000 was forwarded to a women’s literacy group in Senegal for the purposes of micro-financing women’s businesses. In addition, one of the CJS students who travelled to Senegal in 2007 attended a conference in Dakar, Senegal in February, 2011 and we used this opportunity for her to take a suitcase with approximately $700 in medical supplies to a clinic in Mbour, Senegal. We would like to thank the United Church in Meadowood for their continued support of this project.

For more information about Reaching Across Borders, see this recent Winnipeg Free Press article.

Celebrate Partners in Mission Annual Meeting (Occurs Oct 29/11)

UCiM is excited to share this information about an Annual gathering within our Presbytery. We are just excited that one of our own – Erica Young – will be offering leadership as a panelist.

Winnipeg Presbytery is exploring new ways of using its gifts to further God’s mission. This year’s event, Oct 29/11, will be a dynamic panel discussion that explores what faith has to do with advocacy, community engagement, and the environment.

We will hear from three young adults who are working for change in their communities. This is a new and exciting way of gathering for Partners-in-Mission and we hope that this change in format will re-energize our efforts in our social justice and outreach projects.

For more information, please visit the Partners in Mission Annual Meeting Announcement!

Please R.S.V.P. by Friday October 21, 2011 if you plan to attend.
