History of SVAG
The SVAG was established in 1998 when Helen Anderson and asked if she would be willing to form and lead a group of painters at the St. Vital United Church. The original members of the group were: Helen Anderson, Helen Bircham, Joy French, Pat Main and June Trueman. Others that joined the group were Peter Baynton, Marion McCallum and Dorothy Naish. When the St. Vital United Church closed down in 2004, the group moved temporarily to the Windsor Community Club and eventually moved to its home at the United Church in Meadowood. The group grew to its current number of 30 members.
Membership
The membership is limited to 30 people at any one time. The membership fee is $50.00 per year payable to the Treasurer at the first meeting in September. Cheques should be made out to the St. Vital Art Group.
The group meets in the Fellowship Hall of the UCiM on Wednesday mornings, 9:30 to 11:30, starting the middle of September and going to the middle of December. The group resumes the first Wednesday of January unless that day is a holiday) and winds up the middle of April at which time an annual Show and Sale is held.
Shows and Sales
In addition to its annual Show and Sale at UCiM in April, SVAG hangs pictures at Assiniboine Park Conservatory and at Great West Life at specified dates during the year. Depending on the number of members interested in hanging pictures, each member is allowed to hang 2 or 3 pictures.
There is a full contingent of 30 members with a lengthy waiting list of those wanting to join. Please leave your name at the Church office if you would like your name added to the list or give Joy French a call at 256-6007.
