I love being on the Outreach Committee at UCiM!

I love being on the Outreach Committee at UCiM.  We have opportunities to go beyond our walls to reach out to the community.  And really, isn’t that what it is all about?

Last week, two of us attended the Annual Meeting of the Jubilee Fund which is one of the groups our church supports through our committee.  “The Jubilee Fund is a non-profit lender that finances organizations and individuals that do not qualify for traditional financing.  Jubilee’s mission is to finance projects that reduce poverty and have a positive social impact in Manitoba” (Mission Statement of the Jubilee Fund).

They often have speakers at the Annual Meeting who have benefited from their resources.  This year a woman spoke who had immigrated to Canada while in an abusive relationship.  She soon found herself in a shelter with a baby, no money, no English and nurses training she could not use.

Support through the Jubilee Fund allowed her to support herself while learning English and studying for the nursing exam.  She has since passed the exam and passionately spoke about how wonderful it was to be able to work and earn an excellent wage as a nurse in Canada. [Hence the picture.]

It was a great feeling to realize we support an organization that allows people with limited options a chance to succeed.  And that was just one story . . .
