Ash Wednesday

This year we are encouraging UCiM congregants to attend one of the Ash Wednesday services being prepared and led by our the Prairie to Pine Regional Council or the United Church of Canada Ash Wednesday Service.  This is a good opportunity to participate in the wider church through one of these options.

To join the services, you can follow the links below the descriptions.

To prepare your own ashes in advance:

Prepare ashes in advance for your own use. Safely experiment to find what works for you. A candle wick or wooden match burned till the (cooled) tip crumbles between your fingers may work.100% cotton scraps burn to a good ash.  So would a previous year’s palm crosses if you have them. To help the ash adhere, use a small drop of cooking oil, or moisten your finger on a pad of oily paper towel.

Litany of the Masks for Ash Wednesday

Join Moderator Richard Bott and the General Council staff for “A Litany of the Masks for Ash Wednesday”. This livestream from the General Council chapel service will offer a time for prayer, scripture, and help us prepare for our Lenten spiritual practice.

We invite you to attend with a short piece of string or yarn (20 cm), or some Lego, or a string with seven beads, or a ribbon and seven buttons…and some glue! And please bring your mask. (You don’t need to wear it, but please bring it.) The service will be live on Youtube at 8am, and will be recorded for later viewing.

Regional Ash Wednesday
Online Gathering and Worship

Join us for liturgy, covenanting with Communities of Faith, and small group conversation. Offered by your friendly Committee on Community of Faith Support. All welcome! Invite widely. Share this event widely.

We are very pleased to announce that the message will be brought by Karen Medland, Office of Vocation minister for Prairie to Pine. For those who haven’t met Karen, and even for those who have, this will be a chance to begin to know her through her preaching.

We are also pleased to say that music leadership will be provided by Twila McNair and family& friends. Twila is the Coordinator, Young Adult and Youth Ministries in Prairie to Pine Regional Council, and is part of St. Mary’s Road United Church Community of Faith.

As part of this Ash Wednesday worship, there will be 18-20 communities of faith whose Covenants of Mutual Commitment, Accountability and Support with Prairie to Pine Regional Council  will be recognized and celebrated.

To join this Zoom meeting, please email Stacey at and she will send you the Zoom link.
