Serenity Memorial Garden

In the spring of 2017, the Serenity Memorial Garden was created as a designated space where people may “inter” ashes of loved ones who have been cremated. The garden is located on the north-west corner of the church grounds. Two benches have been donated in memory of loved ones. The Serenity Memorial Garden was dedicated on October 15, 2017 and is now available for quiet reflection and interment of ashes.

“What we once enjoyed and deeply loves we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us.” ~ Helen Keller

Prior to the interment service, a hole is dug in the garden in a location chosen by the family. The ashes are poured into the hole from the urn, mixed with the earth and covered by earth. The ashes will break down and be integrated with the earth in about six months. The church has an urn that can be used for the ceremony. Please note: The garden is not a cemetery, therefore urns cannot be buried and there can be no markers in the garden.

Bardal Funeral Home has donated a beautiful marble urn to be used during interment. Thank you to Kevin Sweryd, Funeral Director and President for this generous donation.

The Serenity Memorial Garden provides an alternative, local area for the interment of ashes that is accessible to church members, adherents and the wider community. Arrangements for interment must be made with the church office. Call 204-256-7002 or email The service of interment will be officiated by the ministry personnel of The United Church in Meadowood. The names of those whose ashes are interred will be inscribed on a plaque located on the north wall of the sanctuary and a record of interment will be kept in the church office.

There are no fixed fees for the interment service. Donations to the Memorial Fund are appreciated for garden maintenance, costs for engraving on the plaque and for church enhancements. Please note: All other fees for funerals, memorial services or celebration of life services apply.

And the People Said

The United Church in Meadowood is a wonderful gathering place for the community in St. Vital. Our Mom’s group has been meeting here for many years and it’s a very special place.
